About Me

Whitney from Something Whitty

Welcome to Something Whitty – I’m Whitney! I’m a Midwest girl here to share my affordable and fun fashion, beauty, home decor and lifestyle tips with you. Below is a little more about me…

I work full time in marketing for a small fashion technology company. Prior to this, I worked in the hospitality and retail industries. I’ve always had a love for fashion and style. During my time in retail, I was able to let my creative juices flow in my stores and had so much fun styling different looks. While I love fashion – and wish I could afford all of the designer bags and shoes – I am truly a bargain shopper. I have a very hard time buying anything full price – so you will find a lot of sale items from me! Even when I do buy designer items, I usually get them on sale – or I buy them while in Europe because they are typically less expensive there.

Some of my favorite things are traveling, trying new restaurants, my puppy Josie, pure barre, and wine – oh and obviously my husband Nick. He’s my Instagram husband and takes pretty much all of the pictures you will see on here and on my Instagram.

Now for a few Q&A…

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Chicago, in a neighborhood just outside of downtown, called Beverly – like Beverly Hills, only this neighborhood only has one hill.

Why did you start a blog?

I considered starting a blog for over two years. I actually created my Instagram and blog domain two years before I ever posted or launched anything. My excuse at the time was that I got too busy at work and ultimately put this on the back burner. A few years later, I found myself in what some might consider an unfortunate situation – my job was eliminated with my former employer in the fashion industry. It was definitely a tough pill to swallow at first, but it gave me the time to focus on what I’m really passionate about – fashion, food, traveling, fitness…just to name a few.

Where do you live?

My husband, Nick, and I purchased a new home in the Chicago suburbs (Downers Grove) in August 2020. It’s still a little crazy to me that I’m a suburbanite now. If you asked me 3 years ago if I would ever move to the suburbs, my answer would have been absolutely not! I grew up just outside of Chicago and went to high school in the city so I used to think that I would never leave the city. I wanted to raise kids in the city and live that city life forever. Well a lot can change in a few years!

Nick and I found out we were having a baby in April 2020 and decided it was time to get serious about finding a house. With how crazy the city has been this year – and how expensive it is – we decided the suburbs were the best option for us. Unfortunately, I had a miscarriage at 15 weeks in June 2020. We had already signed a contract on the house and decided to move forward in the hopes that we will start a family eventually.

Before this, we lived in a neighborhood of Chicago called Bucktown. Nick and I bought our first home in June 2015 – a two bedroom condo where we lived for five years. We loved our neighborhood and saw it change so much in the 5 years that we lived there.
