Living Room Update with The Finish
Last year we moved into our new home in the western suburbs of Chicago. Coming from a two-bedroom condo to a 4-bedroom house with much more space proved to be a big project to take on when it came to decorating and purchasing furniture. After months of not completing our living room, I discovered The Finish. The Finish offers interior design services from small projects, like styling a bookcase, to full scale projects, like mapping out an entire room and finding the right furnitures, fixtures, etc. In my case, I had a small project – to add the finishing touches to our living room.
The Design Process with The Finish
I had already purchased the big items for our living room, like couches, chairs, and a coffee table, but I was really struggling with how to fill an empty corner and what to hang on the wall behind our big couch. After meeting with and learning about The Finish, I knew they were the perfect fit for my project. The Finish offers hourly design services with no budget minimum. I worked closely with their designer to determine what style and vision I had for the space. We met in person, but you can also schedule virtual consultations and do pretty much everything over video too!
After a couple of meetings, my designer sent me some inspiration based on things that I liked. I was blown away by how spot on her recommendations were. She also had the brilliant idea to add peel and stick tile to our fireplace. I mentioned that I didn’t love the black tile on our fireplace, but I didn’t want to go the full on construction route and rip out the tile and replace it. She suggested a heat resistant peel and stick tile, and I seriously love how it turned out! Forewarning though, it was a pretty time consuming project – you’ll need to have a lot of patience to tackle something like this!
Final Touches from The Finish
After reviewing the inspiration photos from my designer, we narrowed it down to a few of my favorites and she was on the hunt to find similar items to add to my space. We went through a couple of rounds of edits, but quickly landed on a side table and lamp for the empty corner, some abstract prints that she found on Etsy for the wall above our couch, decorative pillows, coffee table decor, and baskets to hold blankets and Josie’s toys. My designer created a mockup of our living room with our existing furniture and the new items we were planning to add. This really helped me envision the space and understand how everything would fit and look together.
Once the design mockup was complete, The Finish handled all of the ordering and payment for the pieces we decided on. It was such a simple process and required very minimal work on my end. Seeing the space come together was so exciting and I love how the final product turned out!
