MacKenzie-Childs Starter Kit
I am so excited to share this post with you today! Last month I had the pleasure of attending an amazing event with MacKenzie-Childs. It was a full day of being immersed into their brand and world. I learned so much about the company and their products – which made me love them even more! After the event, I had the opportunity to add some of their gorgeous pieces into my own home – so I decided to create a MacKenzie-Childs Starter Kit.
I realize that some of their products have a higher price point so it might not be realistic to completely deck out your home in MacKenzie-Childs, but I do think that you can always start with one piece and build up your collection from there.
First a little background on my growing love for MacKenzie-Childs…
My first intro to MacKenzie-Childs
The first time I was introduced to MacKenzie-Childs was through my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. I immediately noticed their Courtly Check pieces and admired them whenever I saw them. The black and white makes such a statement but isn’t too much that it can’t be used for everyday life.
When I was invited to attend this event, I was so excited and extremely humbled to be picked for something like this. Prior to the event, I didn’t own any MacKenzie-Childs items but always thought about how gorgeous they would look on a tablescape or for entertaining.
#MCTakesChicago Event
Since this event was so incredible, I want to give you a quick overview of the day. The morning started with meeting the MacKenzie-Childs team and sitting down for breakfast. We participated in several activities to be fully immersed in the brand – like flower arranging using MacKenzie-Childs’ tea kettles, flower pots, and vases, painting our own ceramic pie dishes (I did mine with a mix of Courtly Check and leopard print), and mixing up our own cocktails using the MC bar set.
In between activities, we indulged in amazing food – all served on MacKenzie-Childs plates, bowls, serving platters, etc. – and learned more about MacKenzie-Childs and the history of the brand directly from their executive team.
I’ve never walked away from an event feeling more inspired by a brand – what an amazing day to look back on!
And now I’m so happy that I can incorporate some of their pieces into my own home, which leads me to my next point.
How to build a MacKenzie-Childs Starter Kit
Like I said, I know these products aren’t cheap, but that’s for a reason! Every piece is handmade and painted. No two pieces look alike since each piece is done by hand – that’s pretty amazing!
There are a few different materials and quite a few collections of MacKenzie-Childs. The materials consist of enamel, ceramic, and glassware. As for the collections, there are a bunch! MacKenzie-Childs is most known for the Courtly Check, but they also have Parchment Check, Royal Check, and lots of others – including seasonal collections.
You’ll notice that I gravitate towards the Courtly Check enamel pieces. The enamel is extremely sturdy and lasts forever if taken care of properly. I think that the black and white check is stunning and something that will never go out of style.
I’ve put together a few of my favorite items that would make the perfect “starter kit” – for either yourself or to gift to someone else. MacKenzie-Childs really does make for the perfect gift (they even have gift registry)!
Let’s take a look:
Courtly Check Large Colander
The colander is not only practical, but a gorgeous piece to have on display. Rather than storing your colander in a cabinet, use it as a statement piece on your counter tops. It can double as a fruit bowl which is exactly how I’ve been using it!
Parchment Check Tea Kettle
Ok I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge tea drinker, but I do enjoy an occasional cup of tea. The MacKenzie-Childs tea kettles are iconic. This is another one that you can have on display to spruce up your stove top.
Courtly Check Coffee Mugs
I’ve always thought that coffee mugs make a great gift. I’ve received quite a few and love to see the mix and match of mugs in my cabinet. The Courtly Check mugs are the perfect addition! I also ordered the Courtly Check lidded sugar bowl because it looks great next to my coffee machine.
Courtly Check Enamel Everyday Bowls
These bowls are perfect for cereal, salad, pasta – really anything! I love to mix them in with my current dishes (which are all white). They add a fun pop of print to my tablescape. The everyday bowls also come in a bunch of different sizes, which make for great mixing bowls or serving bowls.
Courtly Check Bar Tool Set
Bar carts have been in style for a while now and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Decorating your bar cart with the right accessories is really what makes it pop! The MacKenzie-Childs Courtly Check bar tool set is a gorgeous 6 piece set that looks perfect on a bar cart. I also added the Courtly Check Ice bucket with ice scooper and the Courtly Check cocktail shaker. Any of these would make an amazing house warming gift!
Since I’m limiting this to a starter kit, I’m going to stop there. Eventually, I would suggest adding Courtly Check salad and dinner plates since you’ll already have the everyday bowls.
