Dirty Hair Care – Best Products & Tips
Pre-Blow Dry Spray // Blow Dryer // Curling Iron //
Hi friends! It’s been a while! Ugh I know, I’ve really been sucking at being active on my blog. I finally had a quiet weekend to catch up on life so here I am, finally writing a blog post.
Today’s topic – dirty hair care – is one you’ve definitely seen on my Instagram stories if you follow me on the ‘gram. If not, click here to follow along!
I believe I’ve mastered the act of not washing my hair. Quite the accomplishment, I know 😉 But honestly, I used to wash my hair everyday or every other day. I couldn’t go more than two days without washing it because it would get oily and flat. After some training, I am now to the point where I only wash my hair two days a week and fully encourage the dirty hair. And yes, I am totally that person who plans when I wash my hair around what plans I have that week.
How to Wash Dirty Hair Less Often
I’m going to let you guys in on my secret about how I go as long as I do without washing my hair. It takes a few products to make dirty hair look good, but it’s super simple. My go to’s are below:
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo
This stuff works magic, I swear. Make sure you shake the bottle really well before spraying. Then spray it on your roots and lift up your top layer of hair and spray it on there too, holding the bottle about 8-10 inches away from your head. After, shake your hair out and rub the dry shampoo into your roots. I usually need just this dry shampoo on day 2.
Baby Powder – Miracle for Dirty Hair
You can really use any type of baby powder you like. For some reason, I think the generic brands don’t smell as strong as the true baby powder brand, which I prefer because I don’t love the smell of baby powder. I think this only works for people with lighter hair, but it definitely works. Shake the powder onto your roots and rub it in. You will see it quickly absorbs the oil and grease. On day 3 or 4, I will use a mix of both dry shampoo and baby powder.
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray– Adds Volume to Dirty Hair
Ohhh I love this stuff. It is expensive, but it’s worth it. The smell alone sells it. On the third and fourth day of not washing your hair, this stuff can work miracles. By that time in the dirty hair process, your hair will be feeling pretty flat and low in volume. This Oribe texturizing spray helps to add volume and make your hair smell amazing. Just like the dry shampoo, make sure you shake it and then spray it on your roots and the layer under. Tossle your hair and don’t brush it after.
Amika Touchable Hairspray
I use this pretty much everyday when I style my hair. It is super light weight but it actually keeps your curls for the entire day. It also smells great!
Kaia Naturals – The Takesumi Detox Overnight Dry Shampoo
I was sent this to try out and I have to say, I’m impressed! It’s an overnight dry shampoo that is all natural and has a detoxifying charcoal that works overnight to absorb and prevent oil. It comes in two shades, which is amazing for both blondes and brunettes. It’s a powder form that you shake and spray into your roots before bed. You don’t need to rub it in, just let it sit and then in the morning, you rub the leftover powder into your hair. It definitely absorbs the oil and even adds some lift to your roots to create volume.
It’s That Easy!
And that’s really all it takes! It may take some time to train your hair to adjust to not washing it as often, but these products definitely help that process. I’m all about washing my hair two days a week if I can, which I typically can. It cuts my time of getting ready almost in half and my hair is healthier and stronger since I don’t have to wash it and put heat on it as often.
I hope this helps you guys out!! Let me know what you think of the products if you try any of them out or already use them!
xoxo,
❤️Whit
